The German Bundesliga club HSG Wetzlar has signed a contract with the Swedish left wing Emil Frend Öfors who replaces the Dane Kasper Kvist after this season.
Press release from HSG Wetzlar:
Dane Kasper Kvist leaves Mittelhessen at the end of the season for personal reasons - the Bundesliga club has found a replacement at THW Kiel - Swede Emil Frend Öfors is coming!
The handball first division club HSG Wetzlar pushes forward with the personnel planning for the coming season. The central Hesse must make a change of staff on the left wing position, as the Dane Kasper Kvist had informed the club that he would not accept the offer to extend the contract for private reasons. The 28-year-old will leave the Green-Whites at the end of the season at his own request.
"Of course, we would have loved to see Kasper stay with us because he is a great athlete and an outstanding person, but we have to accept his decision," says HSG Managing Director Björn Seipp. "Kasper has explained his reasons openly and honestly and we respect them. After that it was time for us to explore the player market and we are very happy that we could now find an excellent replacement. "
The Central Hessians have committed Emil Frend Öfors. The Swedish international will change from THW Kiel in the summer. The 23-year-old has signed a two-year contract with HSG Wetzlar after passing medical checks. Frend Öfors was obliged in July by the THW Kiel and has been equipped with a contract until the end of the season. The left winger had played for Sweden at the World Championship in France and, among other things, attracted attention there.
"We are very happy that Emil has decided for HSG Wetzlar and together with Maximilian Holst will form the duo in the left-wing position from next season," said Björn Seipp. "At the age of 23, Emil already has everything we need in his position and can also cover the back position. He was our player of choice after Kaspers decision - also because we know that he still has development potential. "
Born in Stockholm, he will move to central Hesse together with his partner in July next year and is looking forward to the new task. "I am really happy and proud that I will wear the jersey of HSG Wetzlar as of summer. I was very impressed by the conversations in Wetzlar, especially the warm and open nature. I immediately felt very well and I am sure that I will fit into the team, "said Frend Öfors. "Kai Wandschneider is a really good coach who has shown a knack for developing young players. I will do my utmost to take the next step under him and, together with Max, to form a strong duo on the left wing that the fans can be proud of. I can not wait to come to Wetzlar and wear the green and white jersey for the first time. "
