In an interview with BT the Icelandic national coach of Denmark, Gudmundur Gudmundsson, confirms that he has has some approaches from clubs and national teams, but underlines that he is interested in continuing as national coach of Denmark.
The Icelandic head coach of Denmark, Gudmundur Gudmundsson, secured the first Olympic medal for a Danish men national team in the history this summer in Rio. But the Danish Handball Federation and the national coach have not been in negotiations about an contract extension yet. The contract of the Icelandic coach expires this summer, and the sought after coach has had some approaches from clubs and other national teams:
"There have been approaches from others. Enquiries can we call it. But I have not answered any of them. I keep focused on my work for the Danish national team. And nothing more than that. So I wait and see what happens. Right now it is about Denmark. I have not even done anything about it. I'm not proactive in relation to others. My focus is to continue. But it is clear that we (Gudmundsson and DHF, red.) should have a talk about the future. We have not done yet, but we have agreed to do so in late October or early November," the Danish national coach tells BT.dk.
The 55-year-old Icelanders, who replaced Ulrik Wilbek as the Danish national coach in 2014, is interested in continuing as national coach of Denmark:
"I am interested in continuing. I always look as coach on how we as a team have developed. I also look at whether I have a good relationship with the players and my assistant coaches and the entire staff around the team. And I have. So yes, I am interested in continuing. Of course, you never know what happens. But right now my thoughts are with the Danish team," he ends to BT.dk.
Later today Gudmundur Gudmunsson takes out players for both the A-national team and development squad.
