Al-Ahly of Egypt won the African Champions League for the first time since 2012.
Al-Ahly of Egypt won the African Champions League after defeating Esperance of Tunisia in the final match of the competition 26-23 (15-13). Meanwhile, Zamalek, also from Egypt (former champion) took the third place of competition by defeating Samara Wydad of Morocco 30-24 in the defining match for the final spot on the podium.
It was the fifth title of Al-Ahly. GS Pétroliers of Algeria is still the most winning African club with 11 titles.
The competition was held in the capital of Burkina Faso Ouagadougou between 21 and 30 October, counting on the men's 10 teams that played in two groups of five with the top four advancing to the quarterfinals.
Now, Al-Ahly will face Zamalek, champions of the African Cup Winners Cup, in the decisive match of the African Super Cup 2017. The winning team of this game will represent the African continent at the Super Globe 2017.
