Stângă new general manager of Steaua

Vasile Stângă is new general manager of CSA Steaua Bucuresti.

The legendary Romanian handball player and coach, Vasile Stângă, is back in the legendary Romanian handball club CSA Steaua Bucuresti after almost 10 years. Steaua won the Challenge Cup in 2006, when Vasile Stângă last time was in the club as the head coach. Aged 60, Vasile Stângă will now occupy the position of general manager, having free hands to rebuild the team.

The former Romanian national player has proposed to bring peace to the team, and in the end of the regular season to go to the playoffs. And next season, Vasile Stângă has proposed the coaching staff to build a team capable to fight in the top of the Romanian League.

Vasile Stângă was the last coach who managed to qualify the Romanian national team to a final tournament - the World Championship in 2011 after beating Russia in the qualification.

Vasile Stângă has played 216 matches for the Romanian national team and won bronze at the Olympics both in 1980 i Moscow and 1984 i Los Angeles. He was the top scorer at the World Championship in 1982 and in 1985 he was selected for the World Handball Team of the year. He played from 1977–1989 in CSA Steaua Bucuresti and from 1989–1992 in the Spanish club CB Alzira. 

CSA Steaua Bucuresti is at the moment placed on a disappointing 9th place in the domestic Romanian League just outside the playoff spots. CSA Steaua Bucuresti has won the Romanian League 28 times.
