Belarusian goalkeeper moves to Turkey

Turkish club Göztepe Hentbol, participating in EHF Cup this season, has signed the 22-year-old Belarusian goalkeeper Aliaksandr Markelau from St. Petersburg HC.

Aliaksandr Markelau, who is a great talent of the Belarusian handball-school, has signed a 1-year contract to the summer of 2017 with the turkish club.

The 1.93 metres tall and 84 kilograms heavy Belarusian national player started his career in HC Dinamo Minsk, with whom he won the Belarusian Championsship in 2013. He played in the EHF Champions League with Minsk in 2012/13 and 2013/2014 before the club went bankrupt. He then joined the Russian Club St. Petersburg HC in 2014. In last season he participated in the Challenge Cup.

Markelau, who was an integral part of the youth national teams of Belarus, has played 11 national A-caps for Belarus.
