UPDATED: Nikolaj Jacobsen rejects leaving Rhein-Neckar Löwen one year early despite rumors.

The Danish head coach of the German champion Rhein-Neckar Löwen, Nikolaj Jacobsen, has ended speculation about a premature farewell to the Rhein-Neckar Löwen.

"I'll stay here until 2019, that's 100 percent," said the Dane after the clear 37:23 victory in the top match of the Bundesliga on Thursday against Füchse Berlin to the German TV-channel Sky.

The coach of the German champion also trains the Danish national team in parallel. Recently, there had been media reports, according to which the 46-year-old could leave the German top club due to the double burden already next summer, although he still has a contract until 2019. But he gave his word to the club and the fans, he assured. "And I will not break my word."

The Danish success head coach of the German champion Rhein-Neckar Löwen, Nikolaj Jacobsen, allegedly leaves the club one year early.

When Nikolaj Jacobsen a year ago signed a 4-year contract with the Danish Handball Federation to become the national coach of Denmark (read more here), the plan was that he should fulfill his contract with the German champion Rhein-Neckar Löwen until the expiration in the summer of 2019.

But now it seems that the successful Danish coach could leave Rhein-Neckar Löwen one year early after this season. The Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung has learned from usually well-informed people from Denmark, that Nikolaj Jacobsen will not fulfill his 2019 ongoing contract with Rhein-Neckar Löwen. He should therefore stop in the summer of 2018, in order to be able to concentrate fully on the Danish national team.

Nikolaj Jacobsen has since he took over Rhein-Neckar Löwen in 2014 experienced great success. The former Danish national player and Bundesliga-pro has won the German Championship the last two years, and when he leaves Rhein-Neckar Löwen it will be a huge loss for the German top club.

In January Nikolaj Jacobsen together with the Danish national team plays the European Championship in Croatia. See the initial squad here.
