The full story from handball-world.com:

"In the dispute about the match schedule, the European Handball Federation EHF has caused a "big bang" this Tuesday hence putting the German Bundesliga (HBL) under pressure. According to information of handball-world, a claim was handed in to the executive of the EHF that contents the request to reduce the number of German VELUX EHF Champions League participants to one club only. Due to the present existing legal order and also by regarding the broadcasting deals this proceeding would be possible, and it would also ease the situation.

According to information of handball-world, there has today been a discussion between the Champions League`s top clubs, including delegates from the German clubs, and the EHF. The scheduling difficulties regarding the German Bundesliga match plan was one of the main topics. The EHF had pointed out that it would not be possible to come to a mutual and cooperative agreement anymore; not at least as the HBL does not signalize the necessary disposition. It has been reported that the European Federation had waited in vain for a sign or a proposal and so the current number of three participants cannot be kept for the upcoming season of 2018/2019 then.

Especially due to the quality of the German clubs this decision regrets as was stated from the EHF but according to the situation given there would no other possibility be conceivable. The request to the executive is raising the pressure to the German Bundesliga as well as to the German Handball Federation (DHB) who officially dispatches the clubs to the EHF competitions. Maybe there might be a conversation between DHB and EHF next weekend in the framework of the Congress of the International Handball Federation IHF. Between the lines, it seems to be clear that the EHF expects a clear proposal or a precise recommendation from the German clubs and the German Bundesliga."
